BURTON: CHICAGO FLAGSHIP RETAIL STORE
Provided: Architecture
Location: Chicago, IL
Completed: September 2007

This 1800's, downtown Chicago stone townhouse was transformed into a genuine Team Rider house for legendary snowboard brand, Burton. The entry, made up of stacked reclaimed timbers, opens to four levels of space. Steel and wood stairs with “Burton red” glass landings make up the central “spirit core,” a stairwell with cascading vintage snowboards on one side and family lineage boxes and frames on the other, giving inhabitants a sense of history.
The spirit core pays homage to the culture and riders of then and now and inspires one to make the journey to the top floor. The snowboard gallery basks under huge skylights and above a snowy floor, simulating the true way we want to see a board: in the mountains on a powder day.
