DESIGN LAB
Provided: Art Installation
Location: Denver, CO
Completed: July 2012

Blurring lines between art and design, three Colorado design studios were chosen to create work for the Denver Art Museum's Design Lab exhibit. For their part, tres birds workshop constructed three interactive vessels that invite viewers to participate in the exhibit itself. Since the work and practice of tres birds workshop is largely based on the incorporation of reclaimed material use, a platform was created for the public to connect with our process by testing three different properties of various regional, discarded and reclaimed materials. Each suspended vessel tests a unique quality: light, sound and resistance to heat loss. Pills of reclaimed materials are stored nearby for participants to insert into each of the vessels, where they can see and record the data that follows. Over time, this recorded data set will constitute an average value of each reclaimed material and corresponding properties that the firm will use to further understand their material selections.
