Completed: Spring 2017

In Spring of 2016, Seattle based adventure company EVO purchased the old Bicycle Doctor shop on North Broadway with the intention of opening their first location outside of the Northwest. The company had a well-established interior kit but hired tres birds workshop to address the detailing and façade. Working within a one-month timeline, Tres Birds replaced the heating and cooling system, and designed an innovative, customized glass curtain to replace the existing storefront.

The installed curtain façade consists of large glass sheets, carefully sized to the imperfect parameters of the given structure. Through a meticulous surveying and modeling process, tres birds fit precut glass sheets into the variable and out-of-square openings. The curtain requires no mullion or sills. Instead, panels are butt-jointed together, held in place with a system of spider-clips and matte black sealant.

The project was a nimble approach to the remodel of a historic building—preserving the structure’s aesthetic integrity while adding contemporary elements. The new space pairs daylight and unobstructed views with industrial details, mirroring EVO’s combination of adventure sport retail in an urban setting.
