FLOWING BLACK PEARLS
Provided: design + build
Location: Denver, CO
Completed: March 2012

Parameters: Create an installation to visually connect three levels of the Denver Art Museum for one of the largest events in the museum's history- the Yves St. Laurent Retrospective exhibit opening gala. Denver is the last and only U.S. destination for the exhibit, one of three international stops (in addition to Paris and Madrid), where the YSLR exhibit has been shown. Install to be completed in one hour and taken down in the same evening in order to ready the museum for visitors the next day.
The tres birds workshop design team turned to balloons as the primary ingredient for dressing the evening in a ribbon of "Flowing Black Pearls." Approximately 1200 balloons were used. The pearl string was assembled in 7 hours. While tres birds workshop has no current plans to expand into the balloon medium, the installation represents a microcosm of our approach to larger architecture projects. Planning, modeling and execution must all be thought through thoroughly in order to meet the parameters of each project with success.
