tres birds workshop designed and built a 14,000 sf space for Lijit Networks (Division of Federated Media), an online advertising and analytics company for web publishers, which allowed them to double in size and improve employee health. Reclaiming 10 tons of railroad boxcar flooring, a sixty-year-old material that once transported coal loads via the Santa Fe Railroad, tres birds workshop created a series of freestanding, multi-purpose space makers, light boxes and planters, with mechanical fastening features for easy reconfiguration. Integrating vegetation into the actual workspace allows for continuous oxygen exchange between human and plant inhabitants as well as providing lively company to office workers. Full-spectrum light used in the design of the planters provides light for working and also grow power for the plants. Programmers are brought out into the daylight, as they sit perched in front of outside passers-by as well as next to other company departments, a move meant to further socialize and energize the space among the main tech workforce.
