A small 1910 brick house in a dense residential neighborhood takes on a 1700 sq. ft. addition to modernize its program and function. Staying true to its materiality, several vertical brick fins are extended from the original house, connected by a grid of steel and timbers as the main structure. The house maximizes surrounding high mountain views within large window boxes of reclaimed timber.
Cascading floors bring the house down into the back yard. A final drop leaves the rear studio desk flush with the garden outside. Earthy materials and expansive glass planes blur the lines between indoor and outdoor.
