SHAMBHALA PUBLICATIONS
Provided: Interior Design + General Contracting
Location: Boulder, CO
Completed: Spring 2021

In 2015, Tres Birds designed and built a home for Shambhala Publications in Boulder, Colorado when they relocated from Boston. See that project here: SHAMBHALA 2015

During the COVID pandemic of 2020-2021, the move to remote work allowed the company to hire remote workers and realize that they could do with less space. Shambhala decided to relocate to a smaller location that could house their library of publications, meeting space, and a smaller number of offices. After choosing a 1900 Victorian house in Boulder, Shambhala reached out again to Tres Birds to help them reimagine their offices in the new space.

In an effort to re-use as much as possible from the existing space, Tres Birds disassembled and altered the custom built-ins from the existing location. Almost nothing was reassembled exactly as it was previous, but parts and pieces were resized to create new built-ins as efficiently as possible. Custom-built tables made from boxcar flooring for the 2015 project were relocated to the new space.

Tres Birds Designed and built a new reception desk from Baltic Birch plywood, and the drops were used to create a bench at the front entry. Behind the reception desk the Shambhala emblem was re-installed on a hidden door leading to an under-stair storage space.
